Bathroom to Wetroom

The Lady of the house got in touch with me and said that she could not get anyone to help with this project and she was running out of ideas. They wanted their unique bathroom taken out and replacing with a wetroom shower, not a tray they said but level tiled floor type.

They also liked surface mounted basins and did not want one that is to small, they also wanted a wall hung toilet.

I arranged to go and visit the house, as this was in a barn conversion it would have been impossible to produce a design with out a good survey of the bathroom in hand.

I did not expect what I saw, no wonder why she could not find anyone, it was a small barn type conversion onto the side of the house, converted for a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, but there were beams and sloping ceilings everywhere and the floor was not very deep either, which was going to make the waste from the shower a bit tricky to work out.

Anyway I measured up and said I will see what I can do. I went back to my cad and built the room, which took for ever to build with all those beams.

I came up with a solution and presented a design to the clients and with a couple of tweaks and input from themselves we ended up with a unique wetroom bathroom. It only just needed fitting now.

Some of the brands listed were used in the finished bathroom.

Brands

  • Villeroy & Boch

  • Corian

  • Keuco

  • Hansgrohe

  • HSK

  • JIS

The bathroom was completed, within the budget we set, by a nice man called Pete and with my help with on site visits we achieved an almost impossible task.

Work Progress Pictures

  • Pete had to completeley strip out the old bathroom.

  • He removed all the old flooring and strengthened the joists to accomadate the wetroom shower tray then layed new plywood subflooring.

  • He used a tile backer board around the walls in the new shower area and a suitable tanking system applied to the walls and all of the floor area ready for tiling.

  • Tiles on the sloping ceilings in the shower area were stuck on with special tile adhesive.

  • Apologies for no finished pictures as these have been lost on an old phone.
